The BCMH Auxiliary has launched its annual Operation Sock-It-To-Me campaign, which aims to collect new socks for local children and teens as colder weather approaches. The drive begins on September 2 and will run through October 31.
Community members are invited to donate new socks for students ages 5–18. Collection boxes have been set up in the Bates County Memorial Hospital lobby and at Family Care Clinics located in Adrian, Butler, and Rich Hill. Donations can be made on weekdays, with volunteers requesting that socks remain in their original packaging to help with sorting.
All donated socks will be distributed to Bates County schools before the winter holidays. School staff will ensure that students in grades K–12 receive them.
"Over the years, Operation Sock-It-To-Me has become more than a collection drive — it’s a tradition of neighbors helping neighbors. With the support of donors, the Auxiliary continues to meet a basic need in a way that directly touches the lives of children right here in Bates County," according to organizers.
The BCMH Auxiliary expressed gratitude to those participating in this year’s effort: "The BCMH Auxiliary thanks everyone who joins in making the 2025 campaign another success. Together, we can turn a small gift into a warm reminder of community care."
