Sunrise Nursing & Rehabilitation leads Cass County nursing homes in bed count for Q1

During the first quarter of 2026, Sunrise Nursing & Rehabilitation emerged as Cass County’s largest nursing facility, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered 152 beds—37 more than the county average for that quarter—while providing care to an average of 135.4 residents.

CMS awarded Sunrise Nursing & Rehabilitation an overall score of 2 out of 5, placing it below the statewide Missouri nursing home average of 2.5.

Golden Years Center for Rehab and Healthcare was the county’s second largest nursing home, with 128 available beds, followed by Beautiful Savior Home in third, at 126 beds.

As of the first quarter of 2026, Sunrise Nursing & Rehabilitation had incurred $30,142 from two fines and received two penalties.

There were eight for-profit nursing homes operating in Cass County, Missouri, during this period.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate a climbing older population in the United States, even as the ranks of younger residents decrease. Americans aged 65 and older rose by 13% between 2020 and 2024, while the number of individuals under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the last century, the country’s older adult population has surged from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

Research from 2021 finds that nearly half—approximately 28 million—of these older Americans may need long-term services and supports. Projections show that more than one-third could eventually require care at a nursing home facility.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director for the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
