By the first quarter of 2026, Butler Rehab and Healthcare Center was under the ownership of Butler Holdco, LLC, with information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The Bates County facility has been owned by Butler Holdco, LLC since Aug. 1, 2023.

The facility operates as a for-profit nursing home.

At that time, Butler Rehab and Healthcare Center received an overall CMS rating of one, which is below Missouri’s state average of 2.5 for nursing homes. CMS bases its ratings on factors such as results from health inspections, staffing figures, and the level of care delivered to residents.

Data show that Butler Rehab and Healthcare Center accommodated an average of 55.5 residents daily in the first quarter of 2026, out of 98 available beds. It functions as a non-hospital-based nursing home.

The facility reported no fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Altogether, Bates County, Missouri, had two for-profit nursing home facilities during this period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the country’s older adult population is rising as the number of younger people falls. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, while the population younger than 18 declined by 1.7%. The nation’s elderly population has surged over the past century, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study found that almost half of people age 65 and older—about 28 million—are likely to require long-term services and supports, with over a third potentially needing nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
